Jabal Jais | My travel experience

Last December I went on a road trip with my family to Jabal Jais. It is one of the most beautiful mountain tops I’ve ever been to and I instantly fell in love with the place. And thought I would share my experience.

MY TRAVEL EXPEREINCE – JABAL JAIS MOUNTAIN

We drove from Sharjah to Jabal Jais and it took roughly around two hours or so to reach the location. The route from Sharjah to the mountains passes through desert surroundings and I spotted quite a few camels and I was thrilled as I’ve never seen one before. Once we entered Ras al Khaimah the beautiful peaks of Jabal Jais finally came into view.

It was late in the afternoon as we started our drive up the mountain and the sunlight playing through the peaks was mesmerizing. The beautiful winding roads through the mountains left me gobsmacked.

The drive up was smooth and along the way, there were viewing stations where we could stop to get a glimpse of the panoramic views the mountains had to offer.

The mountain is equipped with parking facilities, food trucks, toilets, camping and barbeque sites for those who wished to camp there for the night.

The mountaintop was not accessible as it was under construction with plans of a huge viewing deck with a hotel, cable car, paragliding launch ramp, golf course and ski slope.  But we did drive up till the blocked end and parked our car there. We walked over to a viewing station close by and got busy taking a million and one pictures.

We then got something to eat from the food truck and hiked our way up to the top. The view from the top of the mountain was truly breathtaking. We could even see the sea from where we were stood. We then spent some time taking in the scenic and rustic views nature had to offer and watched the sun slowly set while casting the sky in beautiful shades.

And like all nature photos, they don’t do justice to the real beauty unless you experience it first hand.

The colors of the sunset blew my mind. I have never seen something as beautiful as that.

As it started getting colder and darker we made our way back to the car and I also spotted a little mountain goat climbing up the mountain. Now, that’s something I don’t see every day.

On our way down, I saw families set up tents and bonfires ready to spend their night there.

If I ever go back there I would want to camp for the night and watch the sunrise as well.

SUGGESTIONS:

  1. If you plan to visit Jabal Jais during winter I suggest that you take appropriate winter clothing to keep yourselves warm against the harsh cold winds. It is known to snow during winter.
  2. Wear appropriate footwear as you might have to hike to get to the top.
  3. I would also suggest that you carry warmer clothes even when it is not winter as the temperatures on the mountain drop during nighttime.
  4. Tank up on fuel before you start your drive up the mountain.
  5. Be cautious when driving up or down when its dark as there aren’t any lights to guide you.

WHY VISIT?

If you’re in Dubai and want to bask in natures glory, this is the place for you. Or are you planning a road trip or a fun outing with your family/friends? Then why not make a trip to Jabal Jais?

If you’re one who loves the way the sun paints the sky in beautiful colors during dusk and dawn then this mountaintop will surely satiate you.

If you’re a nature fanatic this beautiful mountaintop will mesmerize you with the cotton candy clouds overhead, the golden glow of the sun as it rises and sets, the cool breeze, the mist rolling between the mountains and the ever-changing colors of the sky.

HOW TO GET THERE FROM DUBAI?

The best and easiest way to get there is to take the Emirates road (E611) to Ras Al Khaimah or the Sheik Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) and then rely on your cars GPS or Google maps to lead you to the mountaintop as there aren’t any signposts to direct you.

It’s a long drive that is totally worth it.
